GLASS TEMPERINGHeat tempered glass has been heated up and then snap cooled. This produces a tension between the external molecules and internal molecules in the glass. This tempered glass has two advantages over normal glass; firstly it can handle greater impact and heat variation prior to breakage and secondly if it were to break, it does so into small safe pieces. Profile Glass has a custom designed tong furnace that is able to temper pieces of glass that a conventional flat toughening furnace cannot. The maximum size we can temper is 400 x 400mm. This glass is then used in various engineering applications, light fittings and other uses where tempered glass is required. Used in conjunction with our waterjet cutting machine, we can supply specialised viewports or other custom shaped toughened glass. |
